Artist's Description

This painting was inspired by a newspaper photo I saw shortly after the Japanese earthquake and resulting tsunami. The story behind this is about an 18th century family that planted a pine forest for protection of the rice fields from ocean spray. Many efforts were taken in an attempt to save this lone pine.
